Interlegal Consulting Lawyers & Solicitors traces its roots to 1985 with Luis Bernardo Trujillo Rodriguez and Gloria Cecilia Garzon Cadena.
In 1985, Luis Bernardo Trujillo Rodriguez and Gloria Cecilia Garzon Cadena, both successful lawyers qualified under the Colombian Bar Association, decided to found Trujillo & Garzon Abogados in Bogota, Colombia.
Trujillo & Garzon Abogados began by providing professional services in administrative law, which proved so successful with our clients that, only a year later, a commercial law department was introduced along with an employment law department. This then expanded to include advising on the creation of limited liability companies, and mergers and acquisitions contracts. Within these three areas - administrative, commercial and employment - our clients also needed our help in ensuring that they were in strict compliance with legal standards and guidelines laid down by relevant bodies.
Due to a growing number of clients, and also the economic growth at the time in Colombia, Trujillo & Garzon Abogados had to introduce a number of specialised lawyers to cover the employment, commercial, administrative and insurance law departments. So, a legal team of 25 was introduced, each specialising in different areas of law. Also, at that time, we began to receive recognition for several areas of our practice, including, among others, financial, insurance and property law.
As our legal team developed, we began to contract with foreign clients in places such as the US, Korea, Spain, Italy and the Caribbean. These clients needed the drafting of international contracts, as well as assistance in representing the rights of corporations. This development was cut short, however, due to a political crisis in Colombia surrounding the credibility of Colombian companies against other local and also international companies. We therefore decided to expand our work in Europe instead, starting with Spain.
We continued our legal work both nationally and internationally in countries such as Spain, Italy, Germany, Ecuador, Venezuela and Colombia. Clients began to request our services in commercial law with, for example, the constitution and development of companies, and also in other areas such as employment rate advice and commercial and administrative needs. We also helped our clients achieve their business objectives. During this period, we also introduced departments of political science and criminal law, civil law, immigration law and international corporate law.
Over the past six years, the firm’s founders’ two children, Luis Eduardo Trujillo Garzon and Gloria Carolina Trujillo Garzon combined with the firm’s unprecedented growth, has led to a reorganisation in the future of the firm, which has, in its 25 years of existence, expanded from being purely a family business to a medium size international law firm.
This reorganisation also led to the opening of a London office and a Bogota office in 2011 which specifically introduced new areas of practice, including, among others: banking and finance, litigation and arbitration, intellectual property, M&A, and international marine, aviation and oil and gas. In addition we are very proud to announce the following departments: Industry Sector and Psychology Area.
In the Industry Sector we are currently helping businesses by taking their infrastructure to the next level. For this reason we have invited new members to our Law firm that specialise in Performance & Technology Sector, Construction Sector, Transport Sector, Food Sector, Retail Sector, and Media & Entertainment Sector.
Our Psychology area linked to our department of political science and criminal law has already helped a number of our clients with their personal problems in assisting their personal issues.
Due to expansion, the partners decided to migrate to Madrid, converting it to the main headquarters. With this change, a new name was introduced: Interlegal Consulting Lawyers & Solicitors.
